UWA Health and Rehabilitation ProgramThe UWA Health and Rehabilitation Program (previously the Functional Rehabilitation Program) was established in 1995 within the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science at The University of Western Australia. The program was initially set up to support research on strength training for osteoporosis and the role of exercise in musculo-skeletal rehabilitation. The program now also caters for those with cardiac risk factors including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and obesity. Programs utilise evidence-based research to implement positive lifestyle changes for preventative-health. Integral to the provision of best practice clinical exercise prescription is the education of students completing the Bachelor of Exercise Rehabilitation Science, which is a 4 year degree conducted through the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science. As well, the UWA Health and Rehabilitation Program is active in facilitating and conducting research in the area of clinical exercise physiology and biomechanics providing the evidence based outcomes that support the programs conducted within the clinic. The UWA Health and Rehabilitation Program provides evidence based programs directed and supervised by a team of specialty accredited clinical exercise physiologists. Program staff are members of the Australian Association of Exercise and Sports Science and are accredited in the relevant specialty areas. People that attend the program benefit from a targeted individualised exercise program to manage their non-acute health conditions and/or to rehabilitate musculo-skeletal injuries.
